For a few hours, Tamil cinema fans thought the long wait was finally over. Screenshots flew across social media, fan pages celebrated, and excitement reached a new high. A censor certificate claiming Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’ had finally been cleared by the CBFC spread like wildfire. There was just one problem. It was completely fake.
The viral document sparked fresh discussions around one of the most delayed films in recent Tamil cinema. But as quickly as the rumours exploded, they were shut down, leaving fans disappointed once again.

Fake CBFC certificate goes viral
On Saturday, social media was flooded with what looked like an official Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) certificate for ‘Jana Nayagan’, directed by H Vinoth.
The document claimed that the film had finally received an A certificate on Friday after facing a seven-month delay in the certification process.
It even looked convincing enough to fool many fans. The forged certificate included detailed information that made it appear authentic. It claimed the film had a runtime of almost three hours and listed several changes that were supposedly suggested by the censor board.
According to the fake document, cuss words had been muted, violent scenes had been toned down, blood splatter had been reduced, and sequences involving a character called Collector Shanmugam had been modified before approval.
Naturally, the certificate became the biggest talking point among Vijay fans, who have been waiting for official news on the film’s release for months.
The viral post quickly triggered celebrations online. Many believed the certification battle had finally ended and that a release announcement would follow soon.
However, the excitement did not last long.
It was later confirmed that ‘Jana Nayagan’ has not yet received CBFC certification. The certificate circulating online was fabricated, and there has been no official clearance for the film so far.
That confirmation immediately put an end to the rumours, although the incident highlighted just how eagerly audiences are waiting for an update.
Sharp-eyed fans spotted a major clue
As more people examined the viral document, some observant fans noticed something unusual.
The so-called ‘Jana Nayagan’ certificate looked strikingly familiar because it was reportedly copied from the original CBFC certificate issued for Vijay’s 2023 blockbuster ‘Leo’.
The creator had allegedly used the same design, layout and formatting while simply replacing the film-related details to make it appear genuine.
That discovery quickly exposed the forgery and explained why the document initially looked so convincing.
Fan account apologises after sharing fake document
The fan account that first circulated the certificate later admitted that the document was fake.
Posting on X, the account issued a public apology, writing: “We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. The previously shared #JanaNayagan certificate was fake.”
The apology helped clear the confusion. By then the fake certificate had already spread across social media platforms and messaging groups.
Meanwhile, production house KVN Productions has not released any statement regarding the incident.
